Mitchell Routes Southern Vermont in NECC Softball Action
BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Mitchell College softball team made quick work of the Moutaineers of Southern Vermont College in a NECC doubleheader, as the visiting team won both run-rule shortened contests, 14-0 and 13-2. Freshman hurler Kristina Torres (Groton, Conn.) was dominant on the mound in game one, as she only gave up two hits, no runs, and struck out 13 batters.
Stacey Suplicki (New London, Conn.) and Liz Roy (Jewett City, Conn.) each had three hits for the Mariners in the first game, and one of Suplicki's hits was a homerun. Brittany Zaccaria (White Plains, N.Y.), Kelly Reynolds (Waterford, Conn.), Marissa Thomas (New London, Conn.), and Michelle Anderson (Scotland, Conn.) all had a double in the lop-sided first contest of the day.
In game two, Karen Fuller (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) picked up the win in her first appearance on the mound this season. She pitched all five innings and gave up three hits, two runs, and struck out four.
Suplicki was hot at the plate again, as she went 3-for-4, including a double, with four RBI. Roy had four more hits and scored two runs, while Nikki Hoxie (Winsted, Conn.) was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Mitchell is now 11-14-1 overall and 8-3-1 in NECC play, and they are back in action on Sunday, April 19th when they travel to Becker College for another NECC match-up.
