Softball's Landry Tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week
MANSFIELD, Mass. -- Mitchell College freshman Gemma Landry was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of softball, as announced by the league on Monday.
Landry, a shortstop, garnered the honor for the second time this season (March 28). A Mitchell freshman has earned the distinction all seven weeks this season.
Landry batted a team-high .522 over six games last week and racked up 12 hits, two doubles, six RBI and seven runs scored. She hit safely in each game and recorded multiple hits in all but one. She went 4-for-8 with a double, three RBI and three runs scored as the Mariners swept Lesley University for the first time since 2015. She then went 5-for-8 with two RBI and a run scored at Eastern Nazarene College.
Landry has played in all 26 games this season and is batting a team-high .471 with 18 RBI and 31 runs scored. She currently leads the NECC in runs scored and ranks second in batting average and third in on-base percentage (.510).
Mitchell (12-14 overall, 2-2 NECC) will next play at Wesleyan University on Wednesday, April 20 at 3:00 p.m.
