Softball's Landry Nabs Third ROW Nod of Season
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Gemma Landry was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of softball, as announced by the league on Monday morning.
Landry earned the honor for the third time this season (April 18, March 28). A Mitchell player has now garnered rookie recognition in seven of the eight weeks of the 2022 season.
Landry batted a team-high .500 with one RBI, seven runs scored and two steals in a 4-2 week for the Mariners. She went 4-for-7 with a triple, two runs scored and a pair of steals in a sweep of Anna Maria College. She had two hits in the opener against Eastern Nazarene College, and in a doubleheader sweep of New England College she went 5-for-7 with one RBI and five runs scored.
In 38 games this season Landry is batting a team-high .465 with 20 RBI and 41 runs scored. She currently leads the NECC in hits (60) and runs ranks second in the NECC in batting average.
Mitchell (19-19 overall, 6-6 NECC) has earned the second seed for the 2022 NECC Championship and will face third-seeded Lesley University on Friday, May 6 at noon.
