Lipsky, Landry Earn All-Region Honors
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced the 384 student-athletes from 197 schools who comprise the 2022 NFCA Division III All-Region teams on Monday afternoon.
Mitchell College had two players recognized, as sophomore Katelyn Lipsky and freshman Gemma Landry each landed spots on third team in Region I. It marked the first time in the program's Division III history that a player received all-region honors.
The awards honor student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with selection to one of three teams. NFCA member head coaches nominate and then vote for the winners in their respective region. All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA Division III All-America squads, which will be announced on May 24.
In her second season with the Mariners, Lipsky was tabbed New England Collegiate Conference Co-Pitcher of the Year while racking up 128 strikeouts over 122.0 innings. She ranked among the top five in the conference in numerous categories, including strikeouts, ERA (3.73), innings, wins (8) and complete games (18). She was also the toughest pitcher to hit in conference action, limiting opposing lineups to a .209 batting average in seven appearances.
Landry, who was tabbed NECC Co-Player and Rookie of the Year, turned in an impressive first season with the Mariners. She played in 40 games at shortstop and batted a team-high .449 with 14 doubles, two triples, three homers, 20 RBI and 42 runs scored. Her 61 hits were also the most in a single season in the program's DIII history.
Mitchell finished the season with an overall record of 19-21. The Mariners posted a 6-6 record in league play and earned the second seed in the 2022 NECC Championship.
