Whitmarsh Named NECC Player of the Week
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College sophomore Brooke Whitmarsh (Portsmouth, R.I.) was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of softball, as announced by the league on Monday.
Whitmarsh, a catcher, is the first Mitchell player to nab the award this season.
The sophomore dominated for the Mariners in their doubleheader sweep on Sunday, March 26, against Norwich University. She went 3-4 in the opener, 15-2 Mitchell win, before delivering a record setting performance in the nightcap, a 13-2 victory. In the second game, Whitmarsh went 3-3 with three home runs, nine RBI, and three runs scored. The three home runs and nine RBI are both individual game records in Mitchell softball program history. She slashed .857/.857/2.143 across two games and finished week with six hits, 10 RBI, four runs, and 15 total bases.
Through 12 games this season Whitmarsh is batting .432 with three home runs and 21 RBI, leading the Mariners in all three categories. She currently hits fourth in the conference in batting average, second in home runs and RBI, third in slugging percentage (.757), and fourth in total bases (28).
Mitchell (9-3 overall) will next travel to Nichols College for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, March 29.
