Landry Named NECC Player of the Week
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College sophomore Gemma Landry (Lewiston, ME) was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of baseball, as announced by the league on Monday.
Landry earned the honor for the first time this season and is the second consecutive Mariner Mitchell to be named Player of the Week in the conference (Brooke Whitmarsh, March 27).
Landry delivered consistent production, slashing .500/.533/.714 as the Mariners posted a 1-3 record on the week. The shortstop had three multi-hit games, highlighted by a 5-8 performance with three runs scored and two RBI across a doubleheader split against Eastern Nazarene College. Landry drove in at least one run in three out of four games, collected one double and one triple, and tallied 10 total bases. She walked once and did not strike out at all, while also playing perfect defense at shortstop.
Landry currently ranks within the top 10 in the conference in batting average (.396), on base percentage (.418), slugging percentage (.528), hits (21), RBI (12), and runs scored (15).
Mitchell (10-6 overall overall, 1-1 NECC) will next play on Tuesday, April 4, when they host Wesleyan University in a non-conference doubleheader.
