Lipsky Named NECC Pitcher of the Week
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College junior Katelyn Lipsky was named New England Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week for the sport of softball, as announced by the league on Monday morning.
Lipsky earned the honor for the third time this season (March 13, March 20) and the fifth time in her collegiate career.
The junior went 2-1 with a 1.75 ERA in three starts, helping the Mariners post a 4-2 record on the week including four wins over conference rival New England College. After allowing two earned runs against Coast Guard Academy, Lipsky dominated the Pilgrims, surrendering three earned runs in two games, both wins, collecting 11 strikeouts. She tossed a seven-inning complete game Saturday at New England College, giving up just one run. Lipsky then returned to the circle to deal another seven-inning complete game Sunday at home against the Pilgrims, allowing just two runs. On Saturday, she picked up her 300th career strikeout, making her just the third player in the program's Division III era to eclipse the 300-strikeout milestone.
Through 14 starts this spring, Lipsky is 8-6 with a 3.20 ERA. She currently leads the conference in earned run average, strikeouts (76), and strikeouts per seven innings (6.76), while totaling 78.2 innings pitched.
The Mariners (16-12 overall, 7-1 NECC) return to action on Tuesday, April 18, when they host Roger Williams University in a non-conference doubleheader scheduled to begin at 2:30 pm.
