WBB Sweeps NECC Weekly Awards
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Two Mitchell College women's basketball players were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday.
Junior guard Dede Stevenson was named NECC Player of the Week while sophomore guard Alexia Watson was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. The duo led the Mariners to a 1-1 week that included a first-ever win over Connecticut College.
Both Stevenson and Watson earned honors for the first time this season. They are the second Mariners to be recognized for each award in 2021-22, joining Amina Wiley and Chelsea Marcano.
Stevenson averaged a team-high 14.5 points per game last week. She finished with a game-high 19 points on 7-for-13 shooting and added two rebounds, two assists and a steal in the win over Conn. She then netted 10 points to go with three boards and a steal in a one-point loss to Albertus Magnus College.
Watson averaged 9.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last week. She hit four three-pointers and finished with 12 points against Conn while adding five rebounds, two assists and a steal. She then hit a pair of threes and grabbed four boards against Albertus Magnus.
Stevenson has started all 11 games this season and is averaging 10.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Watson has also started all 11 games and is averaging 7.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest. Watson also leads the team with 19 three-point field goals while Stevenson ranks second with 16.
Mitchell (6-5 overall) will next host Coast Guard Academy on Monday, January 3 at 1 p.m.
