Stevenson Earns NECC Player of the Week Honors
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Dede Stevenson (Hartford, Conn.) was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of women's basketball, as announced by the league on Monday morning.
The guard averaged 19.7 points per game to lead the Mitchell College women's basketball team to a 2-1 record on the week. Stevenson also averaged 3.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest, while shooting 40% from the floor, 40% from three-point range, and 75% from the free throw line. It's the first time this season that Stevenson has earned NECC Player of the Week honors.
She began the week by scoring a season-high 34 points in a non-conference loss to the Coast Guard Academy. Stevenson kept up her strong play three days later, pouring in 20 points as the Mariners took down Wesleyan University 85-75. Her week then concluded on Saturday, when Mitchell opened conference play by routing Lesley University 92-45. Despite playing just 22 minutes, Stevenson was intregal to building an early lead, scoring five points, dishing five assists, and grabbing five rebounds.
The Mariners (8-8 overall, 1-0 NECC) will continue conference play on Thursday, January 19th, when they host New England College at the Yarnall Athletic Center.
