Stevenson Collects Regional Honor
NEW LONDON, Conn. -- On the heels of being named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the first time this season, Mitchell College senior Dede Stevenson also picked up regional accolades earlier this week.
Stevenson, who has helped guide the Mariners to an 8-8 record, 1-0 in conference play, was a Second Team selection by the New England Women's Basketball Association for her performance last week. She is the first Mitchell player to land on either the first or second team in the weekly selections by NEWBA this season. Each week during the regular season, the organization honors a player and rookie of the week from the region, and selects a five player first team along with a five player second team.
The senior guard averaged 19.7 points per game to lead the Mitchell College women's basketball team to a 2-1 record the week of January 7th-14th. Stevenson also averaged 3.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest, while shooting 40% from the floor, 40% from three-point range, and 75% from the free throw line.
The Mariners (8-8, 1-0 NECC) return to play on Thursday, January 19th, when they host New England College at 5:00 pm.
