Women's Soccer Trio Named to All-Conference
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Three members of the Mitchell College women's soccer team received all-conference honors from the New England Collegiate Conference on Thursday, as the league announced its annual awards.
Senior Madison Nicynski (Warwick R.I.) was first team All-NECC selection and was also named NECC Defensive Player of the Year, the first time in the history of the conference that a Mitchell player has earned that major award. All selections were determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches. Nicynski started in all 16 games and anchored a defense which led the league with a 1.44 goals against average. The Mariners allowed only 23 goals on the season, also tops in the NECC. The senior chipped in two goals as well, tying four other players for the second most goals on the team.
Joining Nicynski on the Women's Soccer All-Conference Team were senior midfielder Mariah Travisano (Putnam, Conn.) and sophomore goalkeeper Gemma Landry (Lewiston, ME).
Travisano was a staple at the midfield all season for Mitchell, starting all 16 games, scoring two goals for four points. Landy, meanwhile, established herself as the top goalkeeper in the conference, finishing with 158 saves while posting a conference best 1.50 goals against average. Her 158 saves were 32 saves more than second place, and she finished with double digit saves in eight games this fall.
Additionally, sophomore Isabella Avalos (Chino, Calif.) represented Mitchell on the Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team.
The Mariners earned the third-seed in the upcoming New England Collegiate Conference women's soccer tournament, and will play at second-seeded New England College on Thursday, November 3, at 5:00 pm.
