Women's Soccer Earns USC Team Academic Award
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - United Soccer Coaches recently announced the College Team Academic Award winners, recognized for their exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2022-23 academic year.
The Mitchell College women's soccer team was among the 826 soccer programs (321 men, 505 women) that posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2021-22 academic year. Of that total, 151 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized.
It marked the third time in program history that the Mariners earned the award.
Mitchell posted a team grade point average of 3.24 this past academic year under head coach Marc Davis. Of the 21 Mariners on the roster, a total of 13 finished above the 3.0 threshold, with nine achieving a 3.5 or higher.
"We are always emphasizing the importance of academics to our student-athletes," said Mitchell women's soccer head coach Marc Davis. "As much as we love our sport, it is just one part of many that make up the overall college experience. It's so pleasing to see our team be honored again for being successful off the field as well as on it. We love honoring past achievements, and are extremely motivated to earn more in the near future."
The Mariners open the 2023 season on Friday, September 1, when they host Fisher College at 1:00 pm.
