W Tennis Falls 8-1 at Regis
WESTON, Mass. – Regis College women's tennis inched closer to a playoff spot with an 8-1 victory over visiting Mitchell College on Tuesday afternoon in NECC action.
The Pride improved to 3-7 overall and 3-4 in the league while Mitchell dropped to 1-8 and 0-7 in conference play.
The Pride grabbed an early 3-0 lead in doubles play as all three Regis duos registered wins. Elora Granados and Paige Pasley posted an 8-3 win in number one doubles over Mackenzie Flanagan and Amanda Resnick while Mary Jane Barron and Kendall Kolb took down Julie Embley and Jaimee Topkin at number two doubles, 8-2. Caroline Roche and Erika Palmer wrapped up doubles play with an 8-0 victory at number three doubles.
Flanagan posted Mitchell's first point of the match at number one singles with her 6-4, 6-0 win over Granados. That would be the lone point the Pride would allow as Roche defeated Resnick, 6-4, 6-2 in number two singles while MJ Barron and Deirdre Botsch posted matching 6-1, 6-0 victories in their respective flights at numbers three and six singles. Vanneyra Chum and Maryse Emungu also won their matchups by matching scores with 6-0, 6-0 victories at numbers four and five singles, respectively.
Mitchell will next travel to Becker College on Wednesday, October 12 to take on the Hawks in a conference match at 3:00 p.m.
