Women's Tennis Edges Lesley 5-4
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Mitchell College (3-6, 3-4 NECC) edged host Lesley University (0-9, 0-7) 5-4 Sunday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis action at the Nicholas Athletics Center.
Emma True earned a quick 6-2, 6-0 second singles win and improved to 4-3 with teammate Molly Phelps in doubles action, picking up their first No. 1 doubles win 8-2. Aleena Naqvi won her first match as a Lynx with a 6-1, 6-2 fourth singles victory, but two forfeited points ultimately cost the Lynx the match.
Mitchell picked up its remaining three points in singles play. Junior Carly Paterson picked up a 7-6, 6-1 No. 1 singles victory while sophomore Jennifer Schmidt bested Phelps 6-3, 6-4 in third singles. Dominique Lacroix wrapped up the final point at the No. 5 spot, earning her first career victory in three sets over Jillian Clarke.
Mitchell will next host Becker College on Wednesday, October 10 at 3 p.m.
