WTennis Falls 6-3 to Albertus Magnus
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's tennis team played at home for the first time this season on Friday afternoon, falling 6-3 to Albertus Magnus College at the Mitchell Tennis Courts.
Senior Chelsea Arpin and junior Ariel Hallisey combined to provide the Mariners with all three points. The duo picked up an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles and also prevailed at No. 5 and 6 singles in straight sets. Arpin won by scores of 6-0, 6-1 while Hallisey won 7-5, 6-2.
Albertus Magnus (1-1 overall) got off to a good start in the quest for its first victory of the season, taking two of three doubles points. Zaida Velazco and Sandybell Anorga teamed up for an 8-6 win at the top spot while Stephanie Thy and Malika Grant posted an 8-2 win at No. 2.
The Falcons clinched the match by winning at the top four singles spots. Velazco topped Carly Paterson by scores of 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 position while Thy downed Alexa Litwak 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. Grant also won in straight sets at No. 3, and Anorga dropped her first set to Anysia Lombardo but bounced back to post a 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 victory.
Mitchell (0-2 overall) will next play at Bay Path College on Saturday, September 14 at 1 p.m.
