Women's Tennis Swept at USJ
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph breezed to a 9-0 non-conference victory against Mitchell College Monday at USJ.
USJ improved to 3-6 overall on the season. Mitchell dropped to 2-5.
The Blue Jays won all 15 sets played. Lucy Roberge at No. 2 singles, Tara Smith at No. 5 and Serena Sundara at No. 6 all won their singles matches without dropping a game. Rebecca Mauri, Sakinah Abdulsalam and Ashley Savino also all earned singles wins for the Blue Jays. Mitchell senior Samantha Ryan put up quite a fight at the No. 1 spot against Mauri, falling in a tiebreaker in the second set.
Mauri and Roberge teamed for a win at first doubles, Abdulsalam and Savino won at No. 2 and Natalia Rozio and Leah Nguyen paired for a victory at No. 3 doubles.
The match was the first in a marathon week for the Mariners, who are scheduled to play five matches in a six-day stretch. Mitchell returns to the courts for a conference tilt at Becker College on Tuesday, October 6 at 3 p.m.
