Mariners Place 24 on Winter/Spring NECC Academic All-Conference Team

MARSHFIELD, Mass. - A total of 235 student-athletes, including 24 from Mitchell College, were named to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Academic All-Conference Team for the 2020 winter/spring semester.

The women's lacrosse team led the way with seven honorees, with the baseball and men's basketball teams right behind with six apiece. The men's basketball team also had the most recipients of any school in the conference.

Representing the Mariners were sophomore Lucca Ardovini-Brooker (baseball), sophomore Grace Burns (women's lacrosse), junior Malik Chase (men's basketball), junior Hannah Corrigan (women's lacrosse), sophomore Dougie DelaCruz (baseball), junior Kaitlynn Floyd (softball), senior Breanna Gagnon (women's lacrosse), sophomore James Giovanniello (men's lacrosse), senior James Harland (men's lacrosse), sophomore Dra Harrison (men's basketball), junior Julius Hemingway (men's basketball), junior Connel Henderson (men's basketball), sophomore John-John Jose (baseball), junior Desmond Knowles (men's lacrosse), junior Anthony Laureano (baseball), junior Alyssa Lombardo (women's lacrosse), senior Gillian MacLellan (women's lacrosse), sophomore Sam Majewski (baseball), junior Brendan Miller (men's basketball), junior Kayla Otero (women's lacrosse), sophomore Tyler Peretz (men's basketball), junior Kaitlin Thibodeau-Corey (softball), junior Roland Thivierge (baseball) and sophomore Christina Yergey (women's lacrosse).

A total of 16 Mariners were first-time winter/spring honorees. Chase, Corrigan, Harland, Henderson, Knowles, Thibodeau-Corey and Thivierge were repeat selections while MacLellan earned the distinction for the third time in her career.

The 24 selections are the most ever for the Mariners in a single semester in the 11-year history of the award. Combined with the 14 recipients from the fall semester, Mitchell's 40 selections also respresent the school's highest total for an academic year.    

To be eligible for NECC Academic All-Conference, a student-athlete must post a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.40 on a scale of 4.00 and must be a sophomore or higher in class standing. Student-athletes who competed in men's and women's basketball, men's volleyball, men's and women's lacrosse, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field were eligible for winter/spring NECC academic honors.
