WATERFORD, Conn. - Members of the Mitchell College men's and women's cross country teams spent Sunday morning volunteering at the 34th Annual Jack O'Keefe Memorial Strides Road Race.
The event, organized by The Cactus Jack Foundation and The Arc New London County, raises money to support local programs and services for people with disabilities. The Mariners spent the morning distributing water, keeping track of mile splits and working the chute at the finish line.
The Jack O'Keefe Memorial Strides Road Race is one of the oldest road races in Southeastern Connecticut. In the late 1970s this race was often referred to as "A Happening" because of the larege number of runners, families and colorful characters, many in Halloween costumes, who came together for the event. The event included a 10k race, a 5k race and a family fun run.
