WLAX Duo Earns NECC Honors
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – A pair of Mitchell College women's lacrosse players were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday morning.
Junior Kate McCormack was named NECC Player of the Week while freshman Lindsey Fairbank was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. The duo helped the Mariners to their first win of the season in a 14-7 final against MCLA on March 28.
McCormack received player of the week honors for the first time in her career. Fairbank is a repeat rookie of the week selection, having already earned the honor earlier this season (March 5).
McCormack scored a season-high six goals in the victory over the Trailblazers. After netting four in the first half, she tallied two more goals in the second that included the eventual game-winner. She also secured four ground balls and five draw controls while causing a team-high four turnovers in the contest.
Fairbank recorded her first career hat trick and also added an assist against MCLA. She scored twice in the first half and had one in the second half as the Mariners outscored the Trailblazers 7-0 in the final 30 minutes. She also scooped up a team-high six ground balls and finished with three draw controls and a caused turnover.
Mitchell (1-2 overall) will next play at Becker College on Wednesday, April 4 at 4 p.m.
