Men's Golf Finishes 14th at ECAC Championship

FARMINGTON, Conn. - The Mitchell College men's golf team finished
14th at the 2009 ECAC Division III Men's New England Golf
Championship on Sunday afternoon at Tunxis Plantation Country
Club.
The Mariners improved by four strokes as a team in the final round
and shot 353 for a two-day total of 710. Endicott College won the
championship with a score of 609, edging UMass-Dartmouth by six
shots. Nichols College's Pat Pio took home individual medalist
honors at 146 (+2) for the tournament, two shots better than
teammate Nick Deni and two other competitors.
Freshman Michael Baker led the Mariners over the 36-hole
tournament. He followed a Saturday's round of 82 with an 88 to
finish tied for 49th overall at 170.
Junior John Pescheta and freshman Willard Visel each improved their
scores in the final round. Pescheta shot 88, one shot better than
his Saturday round, to finish 60th overall at 177. Visel shaved 10
strokes off his first round score to shoot 84 on Sunday, finishing
61st overall at 178.
Sophomores Tad Maynard and Richard Palaia rounded out the scoring.
Maynard finished tied for 64th overall at 185 while Palaia placed
66th at 192.
Mitchell will host Becker College in the first of three home events
this fall on Wednesday, October 7 at Shennecossett Golf Course. The
teams will tee off at noon.
