Men's Golf in Sixth at NECC Championship
LEICESTER, Mass. - After the first round of play Elms College shot
a 306, taking a nine stroke lead into tomorrow's final round of the
New England Collegiate Conference Golf Championships at Leicester
Country Club.
Elms College was carried by sophomore Phil Rurak who shot a 72;
which is two over par at Leicester Country Club. Springfield
College and Babson College are separated by one stroke at 315 and
316 respectively. Springfield senior Craig DiFranco shot a four
over par 74, to help hold the Pride in second place. Babson golfers
Joseph Young and Matt Foley also shot 74 to keep the Beavers in
third place. Elms freshmen Kyle Simard and Henry Fall finished in
the top five with scores of 76.
Becker College stands in fourth place, 28 shots behind third place
Springfield College with a score of 344. John Bourque led the Hawks
with a team best 81 after the first round. Falling three shots
behind Becker were the Eagles of Daniel Webster, who shot a 347.
Emily Bouchard finished the day in eighth place overall and carried
the Eagles with a score of 79. Rounding out the bottom of the
field was Mitchell College (379) and Newbury College (417).
The second and final round of the New England Collegiate Conference
Golf Championship tees off tomorrow morning at 9am at Leicester
Country Club. The tee time was pushed back one hour due to the
threat of frost tonight.
