Men's Golf in Fifth at NECC Championship
WEST BOYLSTON, Mass. – Babson College shot a team round of 298 and holds a 23-stroke lead after the first round of play at the 2016 New England Collegiate Conference Men's Golf Championship on Saturday at Wachusett Country Club.
The Beavers posted the four best individual rounds of the day, led by a 2-under-par effort by Chris Bornhorst that included four birdies. He holds a four-shot lead over teammate Lukas Linemayr heading into Sunday's final round, and David Choi and Martin Jensen are tied for third in the field of 28 after posting rounds of 77.
Springfield College and Elms College are within striking distance after recording team rounds of 321 and 322, respectively. Mike Strong paced the Pride with a round of 78 and is tied for fifth while Chris Soderberg and Mike Fleury each carded rounds of 79 for the Blazers.
Daniel Webster College (347), Mitchell College (367) and Becker College (435) rounded out the field. Becker's MacGregor Howey is in the mix after a round of 78 and is tied for fifth. Clint Goodwin shot 84 to lead the Eagles while David Eichelberg came in with an 86 for the Mariners.
The NECC Men's Golf Championship will conclude with a final round of 18 holes on Sunday, October 2 at Wachusett Country Club. The first tee time is slated for 11 a.m.
