Men's Tennis Falls to Becker
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Becker College won the first five points of the day en route to a 7-2 victory over Mitchell College on Tuesday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference men's tennis action at the Mack Tennis Courts.
The Hawks, who swept the doubles points before winning four of six singles matches, improved to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in league play. Daniel Dettinger-Klemm, Throngpol Chinpanjapol, Connor Allison and Francis Musick each recorded wins in both doubles and singles. Becker sealed the victory behind Allison's win at No. 4 singles.
Mitchell (0-2 overall, 0-2 NECC) received singles wins from Orson Sinclair at No. 2 and Michael Berman at No. 5. Sinclair won in straight sets while Berman battled back from a set down to win a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a third set.
The contest began with the Hawks claiming all three doubles points. Becker won convincingly at No. 2 and No. 3, but at No. 1 it was a grind as Dettinger-Klemm and Chinpanjapol outlasted the Mitchell duo of Adam Diaz and Sinclair.
Musick won the first singles match by dispatching Michael Hartley at No. 6. That set the table for Allison to secure the clinching point, and Dettinger-Klemm and Chinpanjapol followed suit at No. 1 and 3, respectively. All four Becker singles victories came in straight sets.
Mitchell returns to action at home against Lesley University on Saturday, April 2 at noon. Becker will next play at Regis College on Thursday, March 31 at 4:30 p.m.
