Softball Swept by New England in Spring Trip Finale
ORLANDO – The Mitchell College softball team wrapped up its
spring trip on Sunday with a pair of losses to the University of
New England by scores of 3-1 and 2-1.
Mitchell (1-5 overall) got solid pitching performances
from sophomores Kristina Torres and Marissa
Thomas but couldn’t supply them with any offensive
support. The Mariners managed only two runs and 11 hits and left 14
runners on base between the two games.
Torres got the start in the first game and went six innings,
allowing three runs on six hits and striking out a season-high
eight batters. New England (2-0 overall) scored all three of its
runs in the second inning while Mitchell crossed the plate once in
the fifth, as freshman Tiffany
Person scored on a suicide squeeze by junior Jen
Bordonaro.
In the second game, the Nor’easters scored a run in the first
and added another in the sixth to go up 2-0. Mitchell answered with
a run in its half of the sixth, with Bordonaro driving in her
second run of the day with a bunt single. The Mariners then had the
tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position but couldn’t get
them home.
Senior Sara Krolikowski went 2-for-3 with a double to
lead the Mitchell offense in the game. Thomas made the start inside
the circle and gave up two runs and seven hits over seven
innings.
Mitchell will next play its home opener against Albertus Magnus
College on Wednesday, March 24 at 3 p.m.
