Lyras Earns ECAC Accolades
CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Mitchell College junior Demetre Lyras was named ECAC Division III New England Offensive Player of the Week for the sport of men's lacrosse, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Lyras helped the Mariners to a 1-1 week that featured a 12-1 victory over SUNY Canton and an overtime loss to Husson. The junior midfielder dominated the face-off spot in both games, combining to win 27 of 30 face-offs for the week while scooping up 13 ground balls. Lyras also recorded a hat trick against Husson and finished with three goals and an assist for the week.
The latest honor comes a day after Lyras was tabbed Player of the Week by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC). The last Mitchell lacrosse player to earn ECAC recognition was Shane Sullivan in 2011.
Lyras, a midfielder, has started all six games this season and leads the Mariners with 12 goals. He has also won 59 of 81 face-offs and currently ranks third in the nation in face-off percentage.
Mitchell (4-2 overall) will next play at the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday, March 20 at 7 p.m.
