FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -- The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team opened the 2020 season with a 20-3 loss at Farmingdale State University on Saturday afternoon.
Jade Shields accounted for all three Mitchell goals to record his seventh career hat trick. Desmond Knowles scooped up a game-high nine ground balls and added a pair of caused turnovers, and Marcel Quinlan and Gregory DeCarlo split time in goal and finished with eight and three saves, respectively.
Farmingdale State scored the first two goals of the contest before Shields put the Mariners on the scoreboard with his first of the afternoon. However, the Rams scored 11 of the next 12 goals to lead 13-2 at intermission.
Farmingdale State scored the first seven goals of the second half before Shields notched his hat trick in the final minutes of the game. Rob Varello paced the Rams with four goals while Blake Behlen and Jake Wandle added three apiece.
Mitchell (0-1 overall) will next play at Anna Maria College on Wednesday, February 26 at 5 p.m.
