NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team suffered a 15-3 setback against Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday night at Kaplan Field.
John Porcelli led the Mariners with a pair of goals while Aidan Messuri also found the back of the cage. Steven Turchetta recorded a season-high 18 saves against 33 total shots on goal, and Desmond Knowles scooped up a game-high 11 ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Xavier Rodriguez and Nick Gurello paced MSMC with four goals apiece.
The Knights didn't allow a goal through the first three quarters and led 8-0 heading into the fourth. Porcelli put the Mariners on the scoreboard with 13:33 left in the contest and tacked on his second goal just under three minutes later. Messuri added his team-leading 17th marker of the season with 5:17 remaining, scoring with the man advantage off a pass from Ethan LePain.
LePain, playing in his first game since March 15, dished out a pair of assists in his return. James Giovanniello also recorded an assist in the game, his team-leading 12th of the year.
Mitchell (2-9 overall) will open conference play at New England College on Saturday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m.
