WBB's Harris Tabbed NECC Player of the Week
ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Mitchell College sophomore Destiney Harris was
named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week
for the sport of women's basketball, as announced by the
conference on Monday.
Harris led the Mariners to a 3-0 record in NECC play last week
while averaging 21.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.3 steals per game.
She earns the honor for the first time in her career and is the
second Mitchell player to garner POW accolades this season.
Harris, a forward, started the week by nearly posting a
triple-double against Bay Path College in a 61-39 victory. She led
the Mariners with 19 points and added eight rebounds and a
career-high 11 steals in just 24 minutes of action.
In an 89-82 win over Daniel Webster College, Harris netted a
team-high 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds to pace Mitchell.
The victory was also the first against the Eagles by a conference
opponent this season.
In Mitchell's final game of the week, Harris added another
double-double to her season total with team highs of 21 points and
11 rebounds in an 81-73 overtime win at Elms College. She finished
the week shooting 50 percent (22-for-44) from the field and 79
percent (19-for-24) from the charity stripe.
Harris has started and played in all 20 games this season and leads
the Mariners in scoring (13.4 ppg), rebounding (8.5) and shooting
percentage (.477). She has also posted a team-best nine
double-doubles on the year.
Mitchell (10-10 overall, 10-4 NECC) travels to Coast Guard later
today for its final non-conference match-up of the season. Tip-off
is scheduled for 7 p.m.
