CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Mitchell College women's basketball team coasted to a 69-31 victory over Bay Path University on Saturday evening in a New England Collegiate Conference match-up at Elms College.
Inanna Rice came off the bench to net a game- and season-high 14 points and added six steals as the Mariners improved to 2-0 in league play. Francesca Pinard recorded a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds while Jessica Lohneiss had 13 points and four assists. Kate McCormack also filled up the stat sheet with eight points, seven steals, five assists and 12 boards.
Mitchell never trailed in the contest after Marissa Sweeney drilled a three-pointer on the opening possession. The Mariners scored the first 10 points of the game and didn't allow a Bay Path field goal until the 2:10 mark in the quarter.
Mitchell led 27-14 at halftime but added to the lead in the third, pouring in 26 points to expand the margin. Rice contributed nine points during the stanza, and the Mariners led 53-27 heading into the fourth.
Mitchell held Bay Path to only four points over the final 10 minutes. Pinard and McCormack combined for 12 of the Mariners' 16 points in the period.
Mitchell (2-3 overall) will next host Newbury College on Wednesday, December 5 at 6 p.m.
