Mitchell shut-out by Independent rival Green Mountain College
The Green Mountain College Eagles hosted the Mitchell College Pequots in a match up of two Association of Division III Independent teams. The Pequots came into the game with a 5-3 record and the Eagles were hoping to extend their 7 game winning streak.
Green Mountain scored the first goal of the game at the 35-minute mark and it turned out to be the game winner by midfielder Monique Couture, assisted by Renee Brecter. Fourteen minutes later Couture returned the favor to Brechter for the second goal of the match. The Eagles continued to apply the pressure as Jessica Stuecklen scored off a corner kick, again assisted from Brechter. Then with :17 seconds let in the half, senior Andrea Pollack played a brilliant ball to freshman Kelsi Lessard for the finish and a 4-0 halftime lead.
The second half the Eagles continued to attack. Brechter scored her second and third goals of the match in the first twenty minutes of the second half, both assisted by Pollack. The final tally of the game was by senior Martha Jorgensen, assisted by Lessard.
Green Mountain College won the game 7-0. Renee Brechter had 3 goals and two assists for 8 points on the day. Pollack finished with three assists. Couture had one goal and one assist as did Lessard. Stuecklen and Jorgensen added the other goals.
Green Mountain goalkeepers, Claire Davis and Elizabeth Roma each played a half in goal to share the shutout. Davis was without a save and Roma tallied one save. Mitchell goalkeeper Molly Gill (Fr., Deep River, CT) had ten saves on the day.
The win moves Green Mountain to 8-0. They host Norwich College next Saturday at 12pm and SUNY Morrisville on Sunday at 12pm. Mitchell College travels to Wheelock College on 9/24 at 1pm. Mitchell moves to 5-4 on the season.
