NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team opened New England Collegiate Conference play with a 5-0 loss to Becker College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Lindsey Keith netted four goals as the Hawks improved to 5-3-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference action. Adrianna Lake also added a score for Becker, which held a commanding 38-10 advantage in shots.
Keith got the Hawks started with a tally in the 11th minute, finishing off a corner kick at the far post on a service ball from Meghan Bealka. Nearly 18 minutes later, Arianna Calouro ripped a shot that Mitchell goalie Jordan Lohneiss saved, but the rebound found Keith for an easy finish and a 2-0 Becker lead.
Lake added a goal in the 36th minute to give the Hawks a 3-0 advantage at the half. Keith then added two more insurance goals in the second half, the first of which came in the 53rd minute when she chipped the goalie off a short corner kick with Ciara McKissick. Her final marker came with 2:47 to play off a feed from Kyra Teixeira, raising her team-leading goal total to 13 on the season.
Lohneiss tied a season high with 13 saves while Becker keeper Jordyn Martel made one.
Mitchell (1-4-0 overall) will next host SUNY Old Westbury on Wednesday, September 27 at 3:30 p.m. Becker returns to action at Anna Maria College on Monday, September 25 at 7 p.m.
