Woodford Tabbed NECC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman goalkeeper Kaylee Woodford was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of women's soccer, as announced by the conference on Monday.
Woodford led the Mariners (8-7-1 overall, 6-1-1 NECC) to a pair of conference victories last week. Mitchell closed out the regular season on a high note and claimed second place in the conference standings with a 6-0 win at Bay Path College and a 1-0 victory at Becker College. Woodford played every minute in goal and combined for six saves in the two matches.
Woodford, who earned rookie of the week honors for the second time this season, has played in all 16 games and made 15 starts. She has posted five shutouts and ranks among the conference leaders in goals-against average (1.59) and save percentage (.775).
Mitchell will be the second seed in the 2010 NECC Women's Soccer Championship. The Mariners received a bye for the first round and will host either Elms College or Becker in the semifinals on Thursday, November 4 at 2 p.m. at Alumni Field. For the first time in NECC history, the winner of the tournament will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
