Women's Soccer Duo Named NECC All-Conference
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – A pair of Mitchell College women's soccer players were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) on Monday.
Junior goalkeeper Kaylee Woodford and sophomore forward Alexandra Charles were each named to the NECC All-Conference Second Team. The Mariners were also selected as the recipient of the conference's Team Sportsmanship Award.
All awards were determined by a vote of the conference's 10 head coaches.
Woodford earned all-conference honors for the second straight season. She made eight starts in conference play and went 4-4-0 with a pair of shutouts, ranking second in the NECC in minutes (674:13). She finished league play with a goals-against average of 1.07 and a save percentage of .840.
Charles earned all-conference distinction for the first time in her career. She played in every conference game and made eight starts, leading the Mariners in scoring with six goals and one assist for 13 points. She had three multi-goal games in league play and tied for eighth in the NECC in scoring.
Head Coach Damian Houlden and his squad received the Team Sportsmanship Award for the first time in school history. The Mariners finished the season with only one yellow card in 14 matches.
Mitchell (4-10-0 overall) finished sixth in the NECC with a record of 4-5-0. The Mariners qualified for the NECC Championship but were eliminated by Elms College, 2-0, in the quarterfinals.
