SOFTBALL DROPS TWO TO AD3I FOE GREEN MOUNTAIN
NEW LONDON, CONN.- Green Mountain College leaves the Alumni Softball Field at 7-4 after taking two from Mitchell on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles doubled the Pequots efforts in each game winning 6-3 and 10-5. Mitchell stands at 2-4 against Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) and 4-11 overall.
The Eagles were led by sophomore Brittany Houlden (Schenectady, NY) who went 3-5 and scored twice in game one and 4 for 6 with a double in game two. Sophomore Van Hartless (Elpaso, TX) finished out the day batting 2 for 4, scoring once, with 2 RBI's in game one and 2 for 5 with 3 runs and 2 RBI's in game two. Freshman Hilary Dernier (Seattle, WA) also roped a double in game two for the Eagles.
Despite a four run first inning in game two, Mitchell struggled to string together enough offense to catch the Eagles. They came alive again in the sixth with a three run homer by freshman Sarah Krolikowski (Bristol, CT), but Green Mountains lead was just too large. The bomb was Krolikowski's third this season. Senior Amanda Johnson (Pawcatuck, CT) batted 4 for 5 in game two for the Pequots.
Eagle pitcher junior Brittany Kurtz (Easton, MD) will record both wins on the day. In 14 innings Kurtz struck out 8 and allowed seven earned runs.
Mitchell will wait until next Saturday, to host their final regular season match up with Lehman College. The double header will start at 2:00 PM. Green Mountain will head to Middlebury College for a 4:00 double on Tuesday.
