Cordero Scores Five Goals in Women’s Lacrosse Season Finale
NEWTON, Mass. – Sophomore Lauren Cordero (Selden, N.Y.) scored a career-high five goals for the Mitchell College women's lacrosse team, who ended their season with a 20-5 loss to Lasell University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) South Division action at Grellier Field.
Teresa Kessner led all scorers, finshing with eight goals for Lasell, who led 8-1 after the first quarter and built a 14-3 advantage by halftime. Emily Watson had seven points with a hat trick, while Kailtlin Bedell and Sophia Blair-Goldin chipped in two goals apiece.
Cordero potted the first goal of the game with two minutes gone by, sending a pass from senior Carly Potts (New London, Conn.) past the Lasell goalkeeper. The Lasers countered with 11 unanswered goals before Cordero scored again, unassisted, five minutes into the second quarter. The sophomore completed the hat trick off a free position shot with just under five until halftime, and added her fourth goal midway through the third quarter, and her fifth with 7:41 left in the contest.
Cordero also led the Mariners with four draw controls and scooped one ground ball. Senior Hannah Gomes (North Stonington, Conn.) and Carly Potts scooped one ground ball each, as did sophomore Madison Dunn (Windsor, Conn.) and freshman Kiersten Veenstra (Three Rivers, Mich.)
Gomes logged all 60 minutes in the care for Mitchell, recording seven saves. Joy Sayah picked up in win in goal for Lasell, turning back three shots.
The Mariners conclude their season with a record of 0-12 (0-11 GNAC). Lasell finishes their regular season with an overall record of 7-9 (3-8 GNAC).
