NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday evening, defeating the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) by a 12-9 final at Shewcraft Field.

Kate McCormack scored a season-high six goals to lead the Mariners. Hannah Corrigan recorded her first hat trick of the season while Francesca Pinard also added a pair of scores. Lindsey Fairbank accounted for Mitchell's final tally and also handed out an assist.

Kim Granito led MCLA (0-3 overall) with six goals.

McCormack got Mitchell on the board early as she scored just two minutes into the contest for an early 1-0 advantage. MCLA battled back and eventually knotted things up at 2-2 on Granito's first goal of the night. However, Mitchell responded with three straight tallies to take a 5-2 advantage as McCormack netted two more goals to notch the hat trick in the first half.

The Trailblazers trailed 6-3 late in the first half but scored two before intermission to cut the deficit to 6-5. MCLA actually outshot Mitchell 21-13 in the half.

In the second half, the visitors stayed aggressive and built an 11-6 lead when Pinard scored with just under 13 minutes remaining. MCLA outscored Mitchell 3-1 over the final minutes of play as Granito added two more goals, but the Trailblazers ran out of time.

Gillian MacLellan was solid between the pipes, stopping 15 shots to earn the win for Mitchell. Shannon Prouty absorbed the loss for MCLA and finished with six saves.

Mitchell (1-2 overall) will next host the College on Mt. St. Vincent on Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m.
