WLAX Falls at Wheelock
BOSTON -- The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-3 decision at Wheelock College on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference action.
The Wildcats raced out to an 8-0 lead in the opening 13:39 of the contest and cruised to the finish. Colleen Macdonald led Wheelock with five goals and one assist while Katie Frade, Alexandra Clark and Ashley Eppolito added three goals apiece.
Kate McCormack netted a pair of goals and added an assist to lead the Mariners. Lindsey Fairbank also found the back of the net once as Mitchell (2-3 overall) dropped to 1-1 in conference play.
McCormack accounted for both of Mitchell's goals in the first half. She took a free position shot that beat Wildcats' goalie Erin Sior to bring the score to 8-1. McCormack scored again two minutes, although the half would end with Wheelock leading 12-2.
Wheelock outscored Mitchell 8-1 in the second half. The Mariners scored their final goal of the afternoon when McCormack connected with a streaking Fairbank with 5:04 remaining in the contest.
Sior faced 10 shots and finished with five saves. Mitchell goalie Gillian MacLellan faced 39 shots and made six saves.
Mitchell will next host Maine Maritime Academy on Monday, April 9 at 4 p.m.
