Women’s Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day Against Rivier
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's lacrosse celebrated senior day on Saturday afternoon, honoring Hannah Gomes (North Stonington, Conn.), Jessica Krupnikoff (Farmington, Conn.), Carly Potts (New London, Conn.), and Isabel Foley (Framingham, Mass.) before suffering a 20-2 loss in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game against Rivier University.
Junior Sarah Lachance led the way with four goals and four assists, while freshman Sophia Cebero also scored four goals and added an assist. Seniors Ashley Wilder and Caitlin Newell each recorded a hat trick for Rivier, who led 9-1 at the end of the first quarter and 13-2 at halftime.
After the Raiders opened the game with six unanswered goals, Mitchell sophomore Lauren Cordero potted her team-leading 14th goal of the season with 4:04 remaining in the first quarter. Six more goals came for Rivier before the Mariners scored again, this time coming from freshman Karissa Cotoia, who took a pass from Cordero and sailed it past the Rivier goalkeeper for her first collegiate goal.
Senior Hannah Gomes logged all 60 minutes in the cage for Mitchell and finished with nine saves and one ground ball.
Senior Lindsey Kruger allowed two goals in the first half, before sophomore Lily Gifford took over and played the final 30 minutes.
The Mariners (0-11, 0-10 GNAC) will conclude their season on Tuesday, April 23rd, with a conference game at Lasell University. Rivier (8-6, 5-5 GNAC) play their final game of the regular season on Tuesday, April 23rd, at home against Saint Joseph's College (ME).
