PAXTON, Mass. -- The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team opened the 2022 season with a 13-1 loss at Anna Maria College on Sunday afternoon at Caparso Field.
Riley Michaud scored four goals to lead the AMCATS, who were also playing in their season opener. Ashley Rufo chipped in three goals while Sarah Burt added a pair. Mitchell's lone goal of the contest came courtesy of Jessica Krupnikoff.
Anna Maria blanked Mitchell in the first half and led 8-0 at the break. Both Michaud and Rufo had hat tricks by intermission.
In the second half, the AMCATS expanded the lead to 12-0 before the Mariners got on the scoreboard. Aizhane Glenn found Krupnikoff for her second career tally with 7:04 remaining in the contest.
Mitchell goalie Gaby Estupinan made nine saves against 22 shots in her collegiate debut. Lindsey Robinson scooped up a game-high 10 ground balls while Stephanie Costabile forced a game-high six turnovers.
Mitchell (0-1 overall) will next play at the University of Saint Joseph on Tuesday, March 8 at 6 p.m.
