MANSFIELD, Conn. -- The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-2 decision to Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday afternoon at Rick McCarthy Field.
Hannah Corrigan and Daniella Holland each scored goals for the Mariners, although ECSU held a commanding 29-9 advantage in total shots. The game also served as a homecoming for first-year head coach Devyne Doran, who was a four-year starter for the Warriors and graduated in 2017.
Both sides scored in the opening 32 seconds of the game. After Eastern took a 1-0 advantage just 15 seconds in, Corrigan won the ensuing draw and stormed the cage to tie the score at 1-1. From that point on, however, the Warriors dominated possession and built an 11-2 lead by halftime. Holland's free-position score was the only offensive highlight for the Mariners during the stretch, and the Warriors added three unanswered tallies in the final stanza to improve to 2-2 overall. Eastern's Tristan Kijak led all scorers with five goals.
Gillian MacLellan finished with 12 saves in goal for the Mariners while the Warriors split time between three netminders.
Mitchell (0-2 overall) will next host Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday, March 18 at 4 p.m.
