CHICOPEE, Mass. -- Sixth-seeded Mitchell College saw its season come to an end in the first round of the 2019 New England Collegiate Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship, falling by a 21-6 final to fourth-seeded Elms College on Tuesday night at Leary Field.
Elms led 5-2 at halftime but netted the first six goals of the second stanza to seize control. Vanessa Vurno led all scorers with seven goals and a pair of assists to lead the Blazers (11-7 overall) to a semifinals date with top-seeded New England College.
Francesca Pinard paced the Mariners with a season-high four goals and added an assist in the final game of her collegiate career. Kate McCormack and Hannah Corrigan also scored a goal apiece while goalie Gillian MacLellan recorded five saves against 34 total shots.
Mitchell finished the season with an overall record of 2-11.
