
Pilgrims Trip Up Baseball
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College baseball team dropped their first conference game of the season on Sunday, falling 8-1 to New England College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Alumni Field.
Freshman Braiden Alaimo (Enfield, Conn.) had two hits, including a double, for the Mariners, while sophomore Chase Donahue (Shirley, Mass.) was the losing pitcher, allowing thee runs (two earned) in four innings of work.
The Pilgrims got on the board first in the bottom of the second with an RBI single to right center. In the bottom of the fourth, the Pilgrims took advantage of a throwing error, giving them a 3-0 lead. Already up 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, NEC plated three more runs, before adding two more in the sixth.
Austin Hazzard picked up his first win of the spring, allowing a single run in six inning. Stephen Dunham picked up the save with three shutout innings.
The Mariners (11-13, 4-1 GNAC) return to play on Tuesday, April 1, when they host Lasell Universiry at 3:30 pm. The Pilgrims (5-12, 2-2 GNAC) next play on Wednesday, April 2, at home against Clark University.
