Wildcats Defeat Baseball in Regular Season Finale
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Mitchell College baseball team concluded their regular season with a 14-4 loss against Johnson & Wales University on Sunday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Having already secured the top spot in the upcoming GNAC Baseball Tournament, the Mariners finish the regular season with an overall record of 27-10, including a 14-2 mark in conference play.
Trevor Juan finished with four hits, including a double and a triple, and picked up three RBI and three runs scored to lead the Wildcats, while four other players drove in two runs.
Senior Jack Hayes (New Milford, Conn.) got the Mariners on the board with a two-run single in the top of the first, but the Wildcats answered by plating four runs in the bottom half of the inning, and led the rest of the way. Hayes finished 1-3 with two RBI, while freshman Chas Terni Jr. (Montville, Conn.) belted his fifth home run of the season, and sophomore Adam Vartanian added a base hit and run scored.
The Mariners (27-10, 14-2 GNAC) will host one of two pods in the opening weekend of the GNAC Baseball Tournament, and will get the ball rolling against Saint Joseph's College (ME) on Friday, May 3rd, at 11:00 am. The Wildcats (23-10, 13-3 GNAC) also will serve as hosts of the second pod in the GNAC Baseball Tournament opening weekend, and will play Norwich University on Friday, May 3rd, at 12:00 pm.
