Delacruz Hits Grand Slam in Loss at William Peace
CARY, N.C. – William Peace University beat the Mitchell College baseball team 17-7 in a seven inning run rule game to salvage the third game of the three-game weekend series.
Robbie DelaCruz (Uncasville, Conn.) was 2 for 4 with a grand slam and five RBI's to lead the Mariners.
Mitchell is 2-1 on the season while William Peace improves to 2-4.
Angel Galindez (Carolina, PR) walked and came around on a wild pitch to give Mitchell a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
The Pacers scored four in the first and two more in the second to take a 6-1 lead. William Peace then added three runs in the fourth for a 9-1 lead.
Owen Robbins (East Lyme, Conn.) had the only Mitchell hit through four innings, a lead off single in the third.
Mitchell got a pair of runs in the fifth as Nicholas Bracale (East Haven, Conn.) had an RBI double and Delacruz added an RBI single to cut the deficit to 9-3.
William Peace led 15-3 when Delacruz blasted a grand slam to left in the seventh to make the score 15-7.
Bracale also had two hits and scored two runs for the Mariners.
The Mariners are back in action on Sunday, March 3rd when they host Brandeis in the home opener at 1:00.
