Women's LAX Notches First Win vs. NVU-Lyndon
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's lacrosse used a strong second half to post a 10-2 victory in its home opener against Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Wednesday afternoon.
A total of six Mariners scored a goal in the contest, giving Mitchell its first win since the 2019 season. Jessica Krupnikoff and Rachel Ricciuti each finished with hat tricks to lead the charge.
The win was also the first for head coach Nate Davis, who is in his first season at the helm of the program.
Ricciuti and Abby Rasmussen each potted a goal in the opening quarter to stake Mitchell to a 2-0 advantage. Lyndon answered back with the lone tally of the second period, as Alyssa Fryman netted the first of her two scores on the day.
The Mariners led 2-1 at intermission but opened up the offense in the second half. After Krupnikoff and Fryman traded goals early in the third quarter, Mitchell scored the final seven goals of the contest to run away with the win.
Krupnikoff and Ricciuti combined for all five of Mitchell's goals in the third quarter. In the final period, Kathryn Barillaro, Lindsey Robinson and Alex Novakowski all added scores.
Gaby Estupinan picked up her first collegiate win in goal for the Mariners. Lyndon goalie Paige Daley made 11 saves in the loss.
Mitchell (1-2 overall) will next play at Nichols College on Saturday, March 19 at 4 p.m.
