NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team faced a challenging matchup on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-0 to Emmanuel College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilt at Alumni Field.
Emmanuel got off to a strong start, scoring in the 13th minute when Carla Andreu Panighi found the back of the net. The Saints doubled their lead in the 35th minute, and although Mitchell fought hard, they entered the break down 2-0.
The second half was dominated by Emmanuel, as Grace Foster extended the lead to 3-0 just six minutes into the half. The Saints' offensive onslaught continued with Paige Letourneau adding a pair of goals in the 53rd and 71st minutes. Sarah Dullaghan also contributed two more goals, including a penalty kick in the 79th minute, to make it 7-0.
Mitchell sophomore goalkeeper Ronnie Keays (Salem, N.H.) tallied a collegiate career-high 27 saves, in the process matching the record for most saves in a single match in the Division III era of program.
The Saints outshot Mitchell 64-0 and also won the corner kick battle (13-0).
