NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team won its third straight match with a 3-1 victory over visiting non-conference opponent Mitchell College on Wednesday.
Kaitlyn Fedumenti led the way with two goals in the first half to pace the Falcons offense. Mitchell senior Alexandra Charles found the back of the net for the Mariners in the second half for her first tally of the season.
Acacia Nelson opened the scoring in the 12th minute, finishing a pass from Becky Slivinsky to give the Falcons the 1-0 lead. Following a Mitchell foul in the 21st minute, Fedumenti blasted her free kick over the wall in the upper 90 for the 2-0 advantage. Just before the half, Fedumenti scored again on a beautiful feed from Shannon Murphy to give Albertus the 3-0 lead going into halftime.
Mitchell scored its only goal just three minutes into the second half when Charles buried a shot in the back of the net to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Albertus held a dominating 30-2 shot advantage as well as a 3-1 edge on corner kicks. Goalkeeper Ryan Clark made one save to pick up her first win of the season. Mitchell keepers Katie McBride and Shirley Palmer split time in goal and combined to make 15 saves. The Falcons improved to 4-3-0 overall while Mitchell dropped to 0-5-0.
After five straight road games to open the season, Mitchell will return home to host Anna Maria College on Monday, September 22 at 4 p.m.
