NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Forward Tori Pierce scored three goals while Shelby Friedland and Stephanie Babineau each scored twice to lead the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team to an 8-0 victory over visiting Mitchell College in a non-conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex on Wednesday.
Maura Goncalves put the Corsairs on the board when she converted a pass from Jillian Van Ness 3:08 into the match. Pierce followed with the first of her goals seven and a half minutes later, and then Friedland scored twice in less than six minutes to stake the Corsairs to a 4-0 halftime lead.
Pierce scored goals 1:03 apart early in the second half before Babineau scored the final two goals of the match in the 59th and 74th minutes. Pierce assisted on Babineau's final goal and finished with seven points on three goals and one assist.
The Corsairs outshot the Mariners 30-2. Goalkeeper Krista Chauvin made two saves to earn her seventh shutout of the season for UMD, while junior Kaylee Woodford and freshman Diamond Thomas combined to make 13 stops in goal for Mitchell.
Mitchell returns to action at Newbury College on Saturday, September 29 at 3 p.m.
