Women's Soccer Comes Up Short at Regis
WESTON, Mass. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team fell by a 1-0 final at Regis College on Saturday afternoon in a New England Collegiate Conference clash.
Regis defender Hannah Bouvette scored the game-winning goal eight minutes into the second stanza. The victory was the Pride's third in a row and improved their record to 4-5-1 (2-0-0 NECC). Mitchell dropped to 1-4-2 overall (0-2-0 NECC).
Tais Salles found Bouvette inside the box and put a pass right on her teammate's foot. Bouvette chipped the ball past Mitchell goalie Katie McBride for the lone goal of the contest.
The Crimson and Gold had a chance to add an insurance marker in the 71st minute as Salles laid a perfect through ball to Kristen Abreu. Abreu streaked down the center of the pitch as McBride came out of the net to aggressively play the ball. McBride thwarted the scoring chance as she made a successful sliding swipe before Abreu had an opportunity to take a shot.
Mitchell had two chances to net the equalizer in the final 18 minutes of the contest. The first came in the 72nd minute as senior Alexandra Mahar caused a turnover in the circle at midfield, dribbled down the middle of the pitch and rifled a shot from 30 yards out that Pride goaltender Rachel Gagnon corralled easily.
The final opportunity for the Mariners came with 56 seconds left as senior Taylor Silva received a cross from a teammate on the left side of the box and put a chip shot on net that Gagnon bobbled but eventually secured.
Gagnon earned her second shutout victory of the season and improved to 4-5-1 as the Pride starting goaltender finished with four saves. Katie McBride made seven saves in the loss.
Mitchell will next host Johnson State College on Wednesday, October 7 at 1:00 p.m.
