HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's soccer team opened its 2016 campaign with a 3-0 victory over visiting Mitchell College on Thursday afternoon.
Jaycie Triandafilou struck twice for the Pilgrims in the opening half of play. She put NEC up 1-0 just 6:14 into the action as she took a nice feed from Rachel Thomas and dribbled around a defender to notch her first goal of the season. Her second goal of the contest came in the 26th minute of play assisted by Sara Culhane.
NEC tacked on a single tally in the second period of play as Emily LePage struck a ball about 25 yards out that tailed in during the 59th minute of play.
Splitting time in net for NEC was Mackenzie Meegan and Jayla Pugliese. Meegan didn't see a shot in 45 minutes of play while Pugliese recorded one save in her half of work. Drew Johndrow (six saves) and Jordan Lohneiss (nine saves) each played a half between the pipes for the Mariners.
The Mariners return to action on Wednesday, September 7 when they host Mount Ida College at 3 p.m.
